I've been fascinated by airplanes and things that fly since I was a little kid. My family claimed to have invented frisbees by throwing lids from large tins around the back yard. My dad and his brother built balsa wood airplanes ~ some flew a very long way. I made some, too, and burning hot air balloons and kites out of giant storm windows when I was a kid. As a grown up sculptor, I made plenty of small ornithopters (flapping mechanisms) and airplanes. Bodil and I made and flew a 26 ft. bamboo and muslin airplane for Burning Man. Later I made a thirty-foot bamboo airplane at the Lab (a San Francisco Gallery).
